TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMITTEE
This committee is tasked with
• Serving in an advisory role and providing coordination for the spectrum of educational programs of the Surgical Society of Kenya.
• Pursuing opportunities to garner extramural resources for innovative educational programs.
• Supporting advanced training in surgical education.
• Addressing issues related to resident education in surgery, including the educational environment, characteristics of the resident population, graduate surgical education curricula, and faculty development as educators. The following goals are considered:
I. Comprehensively addressing the educational needs of surgical residents across various disciplines.
II. Supporting educational efforts to facilitate transitions from medical school to residency training, and from residency training into practice.
III. Ensuring that the residency education environment provides the best educational experiences and optimal outcomes.
IV. Helping residency and fellowship programs meet current and future accreditation requirements.
V. Coordinating educational activities with national program director organizations to achieve common goals and outcomes.
VI. Monitoring the outcomes of specific educational programs.
VII. Making available a range of innovative educational programs and materials to medical students.
VIII. Establishing a national mentoring program for medical students to complement mentoring available within their respective schools.
IX. Promoting and supporting surgery interest groups at various medical schools.
X. Providing useful information and guidance to medical students interested in surgical careers.
XI. Facilitating the involvement of medical students in the educational activities of the Surgical Society of Kenya.
